I'm trying to run MC3 through PCSX2. It runs normally at first, when I'm standing still or cruising slowly, but as soon as I go over 25 M/h the game goes into slow motion. This seems pretty odd to me because I attempted this back in 2011-ish as well, with a much older version and a weaker computer, and it ran exactly the same way. My current PC isn't great but it is a pretty big upgrade, I expected some improvement: OLD: • Intel Core i5-661 3.33 GHz (2 Cores, 4 threads) • 4 GB DDR3 RAM • GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1GB • Windows 7 64bit CURRENT: • Intel Core i7-870 2.9 GHz (4 Cores, 8 threads) • 8 GB DDR3 RAM • GeForce GTX 970 3.5 GB • Windows 10 64bit Are my expectations too high? I haven't messed with the settings since I know fuckall about PS2 games. Unfortunately that Core i7 is 8 years old, and the IPC back then wasn't that great, even for Intel CPUs. As I look at your CPU in PassMark, it only has. Your Core i5 actually had a higher due to its higher clock speed (and interestingly enough it's actually newer than your i7). But even your Core i5 would probably not be enough to run that game at full speed, it's on the list of most CPU-intensive games after all. Sorry to say but I think it's time to leave LGA 1156 behind and upgrade to a newer socket. I'd say look at Ivy Bridge or Haswell if you can't afford to buy the newest hardware. Even a Pentium G3258 and a cheapo H-series motherboard would run circles around your i7 in terms of single-threaded performance (which is all that matters to modern emulators like PCSX2 and Dolphin). First of all, I think you might want to do some fact-checking. The i7-870 was one of the best Intel CPU's available at the time of it's release, second only to the i7-880 and the i7-875k if overclocked. So what if it's 8 years old? PCSX2 is 15 years old, and the game I'm trying to run is 12 years old. That being said unless PCSX2 uses the CPU to render graphics (which would be absurd) a newer CPU architecture shouldn't matter. Second, if I were a moron wanted advice on how to build my PC, I would have asked for advice, but I didn't. Considering many people still use first generation i5 and i7 quad cores to run games at 4K, and mine all run perfectly at 60+ FPS 1080p, I don't see why it would be necessary. And third, are you seriously implying a mid-range core-duo is better than a high-end quad core just because the former clocks slightly higher? You do realize we're talking twice the processing power here, right? Back when I had the i5-661 I could barely run big games at 30 FPS 1080p. So no offense, guru, but I think I'll wait for someone to post an intelligent answer. Or at the very least, informed. I'm sorry if my post came off as disparaging or something to that extent, that was absolutely not my intention and I apologize; I meant no offense to you or your hardware for that matter. Now you seem to have a couple of misconceptions about how emulation works so I will attempt to clarify these below if you'll allow me the time: • Age has no bearing on how easy or hard modern emulation is on your CPU. My i7-4790K will be brought to its knees by PCSX2 when trying to emulate certain games. Taking Dom 31 with its 9 (!) victory points (Objective chits N, L and T in play) would be the only way to swing the odds in German favor (the victory point count stayed firmly around 20-23 on the Allied side).
